What is Beryllium (CAN)?
Beryllium is a strong, lightweight metal used in industries like manufacturing and aerospace. It becomes dangerous when tiny particles are released into the air during cutting or grinding. Breathing these particles can damage the lungs and cause serious health problems. This training helps workers understand the risks and learn how to stay safe around beryllium.
Course Overview
Exposure to beryllium can cause serious health problems, including chronic beryllium disease and lung damage. Beryllium Awareness Training (Canada) is a comprehensive, Canada-compliant course designed to help workers identify exposure hazards, follow safe operating procedures, and use personal protective equipment effectively.
This course fulfills Canada’s classroom training requirement and aligns with key safety regulations across multiple provinces. Through interactive lessons and practice quizzes, participants will learn how to recognize risks, implement control measures, and prevent exposure in workplaces where beryllium is present.
This training covers the following Canadian standards:
- WorkSafe BC – R5.48-1 Controlling Exposure – Exposure Limits
- Alberta Regulation 87/2009
- Quebec – Chapter S-2.1, s. 223
- Yukon – Occupational Health Regulations Table 8
- Saskatchewan – Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Table 20
- Ontario – Occupational Exposure Limits for Ontario Workplaces
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify sources of beryllium exposure
- Monitor exposure levels and understand control measures
- Follow safe operational practices and protective procedures
- Select and use appropriate PPE to minimize health risks
